There’s some very talented and compassionate developers that have been with Valve for a long time that I assume will get past the reigns when he decides to step down or dies, and I’m hopeful that they will be as awesome as Gabe.

I constantly see people talking about how Valve will go to shit when Gabe dies, but I simply don’t think that’s true. Gabe is not the only amazing human at that company.

Don’t worry. I’m sure whomever he hands it over to will also support running CS:GO as an illegal underage casino.

Haven’t read the article just yet but it’s so insane how far this has come and all the pieces that came together over so many years. Very excited about the future of SteamOS

I cant wait for the day I can switch from Windows to Steam OS without losing compatibility with all my software. I hate how MS has handled Windows

There was a comment thread in one of the Linux communities the other day talking about this mindset. Obviously the comments got a bit rude and unconstructive, but the point is that you can switch to something like bazzite now and most things will work pretty well, but if you’re holding out until it’s perfect then you’ll be waiting forever!

That’s what I did recently, and most things just worked out of the box even with a Nvidia card. Notable mentions, tho, multiple streaming providers and game add-ons refuse to work on Linux no matter what you do, which could definitely be annoying if that’s something needed often. Almost all other things can work out with an occasional research needed .

This is a good point. I think it’s definitely worth people trying it out if they haven’t and they might be surprised by how good it is. That said, it does still depend on the person, if there’s a particular app or workflow that needs Windows and there’s simply no good alternative then you’re kinda stuck which sucks. For me I almost never boot into Windows these days but I still wouldn’t feel comfortable totally removing it yet. Maybe one day soon.

Same, the dual-boot is there just in case but it gets less and less use as time goes by

Cool, his name name translated from French to English is Peter-Wolf. His parents must have been big fans of Prokofiev.
